The Marist Family Retreat in August 1999 was led by Jan Hulshof sm, a member of the Dutch province of the Society of Mary.

The theme of the retreat was'The "New Church" in the context of Marist Spirituality' and was held in Mount St. Mary's, Milltown, Dublin 14 Ireland.

The retreat began on Monday the 23rd and finished on Friday 27th August. It was organised by and open to the various branches of the Marist Family.

Over the five days Jan explored the theme of the retreat, using the following programme:

Monday 23 August: Our Resources
1. Morning: 'Tell me what you have in the house' (2 Kings 4:1-7)
2. Afternoon: Marist resources at the millennium passage

Tuesday 24 August; Our Call
1. Morning: 'Come, now! I will send you…' (Exodus3:10)
2. Afternoon: Our Marist call today.

Wednesday 25 August: Our Model
1. Morning: 'Rather blest who hear the Word of god and keep it' (Lk 11:27)
2. Afternoon: Mary as the model of the Church

Thursday 26 August: Our Priorities,
1. Morning: 'Of one heart and one mind' (Acts4:32)
2. Afternoon: Marists for a Marian church.

Friday 27 August: Our Hope,
1. Morning: 'A Sign of Certain Hope and Comfort (Ephesians 5:26)
2. Afternoon: Call to Reconciliation

We thank Jan who brought such richness to the Marist Family retreat, through these texts, through the manner of his delivery with many additions and adaptations and through his infectious faith, hope and love for the Gospel, the Church and Marist Spirituality.
