Holy Thursday

I have a baptism to undergo

and how I long for it

to be accomplished. (Luke 12:50)

That is why we preach this way. We wish to shake our baptized people out of habits that threaten to make them practically baptized pagans, idolaters of their money and power. What sort of baptized persons are these? Those who want to bear the mark of the Spirit and the fire that Christ baptizes with must take the risk of renouncing everything and seeking only God’s reign and justice. (Oscar Romero)

I tol’ Jesus it would be all right, if he changed my name.

Jesus tol’ me I would have to live humble, if he changed my name.

Jesus tol’me that the world would be ‘gainst me, if he changed my name.

But I tol’ Jesus it would be all right – if he changed my name!

(African-American spiritual)
